Coming off an already high base,
the numbers for Better Homes &
Gardens have increased for every
key criteria, to overwhelmingly
state the case for it to be awarded
Magazine of the Year.
Better Homes & Gardens was the clear choice for the top prize in 2009. Coming o an
already high base, increases in circulation, readership and ad volume helped the
Paci c Magazines title surge past the competition to be named the Australian
Magazine Awards' inaugural Magazine of the Year.
Better Homes & Gardens posted a 10.4% year-on-year increase in circulation in
the June 2009 Audit Bureau of Circulations report, the biggest circulation increase of
any magazine in the audit. Sales hit 370,000, making it the third best-selling magazine
Readership was also up, increasing 2.3% in the same period, to 1.74 million ± its
seventh consecutive reporting of year-on-year growth, according to Roy Morgan.
By comparison, Magazine of the Year nalist Shop Til You Drop's circulation rose
7.7% in the same period, reaching sales of 80,964, while Delicious posted a small
increase in circulation, up 0.9% to 129,626, and a slight increase in readership, up
0.4% to 511,000.
Better Homes & Gardens posted its most impressive results in advertising volume,
with a massive 19% increase in the year to June 2009, according to Nielsen AdEx,
despite the fact that the global economic downturn has led media buyers to tighten
the purse strings.
Aware of its success in attracting advertisers, Paci c Magazines made Better Homes
& Gardens one of the rst titles to be included in its Buyers Action Measure system that
it introduced in September to provide buyers with a ROI measure.
Better Homes & Gardens also makes a big e ort to introduce itself to media buyers,
hosting events such as the yearly Better Homes & Gardens Cook-O to demonstrate
what the magazine is about in an interactive way.

through Yahoo!7 and its radio program. With advertisers increasingly seeking cross-
